The Culture and precision underlying aesthetics
As quick and curious as a cat, Ginevra Boralevi - consistent with the trait normally attributed to felines - has lived many lives. Initially engaged in strategic planning for the advertising business, she then got deeply involved in the digital world with Prestigium.com, a pioneering online affordable luxury brand – most leading brands still did not have their own site at the time - followed by a management consultancy and co-branding firm, partnership as a means of communication. Her present activity: watches.
Even her home is constantly on the move; now she has settled in Paris, following periods in Florence and Milan, but: “I have developed my own style in Paris”. We meet her in the house looking out onto the luminous Engadine valley where we ask her to elaborate on it: a most precise style with philosophical forays of an intellectual nature, comprising books by others and portraits of her own execution.
Explanation: the innate class of the French has even inspired their diet.
The secret of a healthy diet: I never deny myself anything, but eat a bit of everything. That also satisfies my natural curiosity.
The basic idea underlying her style: I always look for something Italian, for instance fabric for jackets, but I do love garments with an English cut.
The detail: watches are extraordinary objects.
Hers is a man-sized Italian navy model designed in the thirties: “It shows the passage of time but, above all, if I don’t have it with me, I miss it. It has become a personality trait”.
Interiors: this is the element that says most about who we are. I work in the virtual world, in a digital age, and I like to be surrounded by my book collection. Bookcases make a home, they are living art works, for everyday use. I have just redone the one in my own home: it comprises a concealed door leading to my bedroom.
Books: there are various different books that help you to know yourself and humanity as well, if you are curious enough.
Colour: blue. From Klein blue to turquoise, taking in petrol and peacock blues, teal for the bathroom, the cream colour in the bedroom has brushstrokes of cobalt blue, similar to stylized clouds.
Curious fact: the cloud catcher blog.
The colours of her style: a blue dress or bottle green trousers worn with brightly coloured shoes.
Obsession: “slipper” shoes,in cobalt blue, lizard green, gold, silver, grass green and zebra striped.
Empty or full? Empty is already full, (as Ginevra sees it, the famous half-full glass is filled with two elements: water and air).
Fears: I’ve got many of them. Hypochondria apart, swimming alone off shore and walking down dark streets.
The secret: in a rapidly changing world, you always need a plan B.
Beauty secret: to practise sport regularly, 2/3 times a week. In the swimming pool your body recovers its natural harmony.
Secret dream: I earned my living for a year making portraits, with a technique that reflects our society: a stratification of photos/retouching/hand executed drawings. Just black and white and only eyes. Which we imagine to be blue.

Ginevra’s 3 books:
- the Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann: plot and writing style apart, there are views just like those of the Engadine valley;
- how Proust can change your life, by Alain De Botton: an historical figure the author manages to bring up to date. Here and now, a philosophy that suits our times, that of a fast-moving world;
- the poetry by Wisława Szymborska, a Polish nobel award winner for literature: simple words which, when placed side by side, are explosive. Like those of poetess Alda Merini, which are less aggressive.
