No_Code Shelter: Stories of Contemporary Life

Tod’s No_Code examines the changes happening in contemporary society resulting from the rapid progression we are seeing in existing codes. We are living in a constantly evolving world, where people’s ways of working are changing, their personal relationships are changing and, as a result, so are their style needs. “Tod’s No_Code” has examined research and studied responses into the contemporary world which are subsequently leading to this rapid social change we’re seeing.

“Hybridization”, the keyword in contemporary culture, is the central theme of the exhibition. The concept behind the exhibition is based on the continuous merging of relationships between two different worlds: the fascination with technology and the charm of traditional craftsmanship. To explore this concept, Tod’s has partnered with internationally renowned architectural firm Studio Andrea Caputo on its “No_Code Shelter: Stories of Contemporary Life” project at the Fuorisalone in Milan from 9th to the 14th April 2019.

The exhibition presents a meeting between the “Tod’s No_Code” philosophy and an installation designed to disrupt traditional codes, creating a space that doesn’t follow a set pathway. To produce an installation in line with the “No_Code” philosophy, Andrea Caputo went back to the roots of architectural design in order to develop and represent the theme of a “shelter”.

The words of authoritative visionaries discuss the challenges of tomorrow in contemporary life, which are documented in eight video interviews. These eight documentaries explore contemporary life through people of different ages and backgrounds who are living in a society that’s rapidly changing its codes, discussing how creatives in various different sectors are reacting to these changes.

The installation is therefore an exploration of a decodified space, presenting various types of shelters. Each shelter showcases a different personal video on the changes in contemporary life. The objective of the exhibition is to explore the origins of our traditional codes and look at how these codes have evolved, to find answers to the challenges of the future in order to understand what the next global style necessities will be.

Silicon Valley. No_Code life.

The video.

This video represents the backstage footage that testimony our on-the-road journey in Silicon Valley in the company of the very well known Iranian/American photographer Ramak Fazel. The pictures were taken in a period between December 2019 and January 2020, just before the explosion of COVID-19. So, this is a portrait of Silicon Valley just before the pandemic-era.

1) Gene and JoAnn Tankersley in their house at 2055 Crist Drive recall the day when Jobs and Wozniak called them over to their garage across the street unveiling their new creation. When they asked what they could use it for, the "Two Steves" responded: "JoAnn, you can put all your recipes on this computer." Her response: "Steve, I prefer my handwritten index cards."

2) Apple Park Visitors Center and the interactive augmented reality installation.

3) Prior to its ascension as a Silicon Valley economic, cultural, and political center, a typical house in San Jose might have cost $100,000, a whisper f today's $1M median home. During a twelve-month period between early 2017 and 2018, the average value of a house in San Jose increased by $100 every hour.

4) Founded in 1991, Buck's Restaurant continues its tradition as a meeting place between Sand Hill Road venture capitalists and technology entrepreneurs. Behind the client Krista Kahl, photographer, an original Apple 1 logic board is kept under lock and key in a wall-mounted diorama.

5) David Moretti, the Creative Director at Apple Media Products, is an avid horseman. Riding Slate acts as a ballast to the executive's daily four-hour commute between his East Bay home and the Apple campus.

马里奥·贝里尼(Mario Bellini)

马里奥·贝里尼(Mario Bellini)是意大利著名建筑师兼设计师,他的建筑设计作品遍布世界各地。其中尤为知名的项目有米兰的波特洛贸易区(Portello Trade Fair district)、日本的东京设计中心(Tokyo Design Center)、墨尔本的维多利亚国家美术馆(National Gallery of Victoria)和巴黎卢浮宫的伊斯兰艺术博物馆(Department of Islamic Art)。他曾八次荣膺金罗盘大奖(Compasso d'Oro),其大部分作品陈列于纽约现代艺术博物馆内。2015年,米兰三年展授予其意大利建筑金奖荣誉,表彰他在建筑事业的深彻造诣。

Totem Brionvega

TOTEM Brionvega是由意大利建筑师马里奥·贝里尼(Mario Bellini)构思设计的著名艺术作品,该作于1970年投放市场。设计主体象征对基础形状的探索,简约的立方体呈现出模块化的组合造型,搭配隐藏式高保真音响系统。贝里尼(Bellini)在立方体中融入立体音响系统和扩音器,称之为Totem RR130,并于1970年将其推出市场。

硅谷No_Code生活

视频

视频短片由著名伊朗/美国摄影师拉马克·法泽尔(Ramak Fazel)掌镜拍摄,真实记录了我们此次硅谷之行背后的点点滴滴。所有素材均拍摄于2019年12月至2020年1月期间,即2019冠状病毒病(COVID-19)疫情爆发之前。因此,这部短片成为前疫情时期的硅谷掠影。
